"The Mist"- Stephen King

Entry #1

After a harsh Winter, A late Spring, and now a sweltering Summer, a thick mist rolls in on a small New England town. David, his wife Steff, and their son Billy see this mist, and are quite perplexed by its opaqueness, and perfectly straight edge where it cuts off. David, Billy, and his neighbor Brent Norton, embark on a journey to the supermarket to get some supplies, since the storms have been limiting their trips there. When they get there, it looks like everyone else in the town had the same idea. But, while their shopping they notice the mist rolling in onto the parking lot and engulfing everything in it's path. Thus, making it practically impossible to see beyond the sidewalk, just outside the market's doors. People start to panic, and some people decide to leave. They never saw those people again. David goes in the back room where they keep the generator and it smells horrible, the generator was overheating so he had to shut it off. Ollie one of the shop keepers, a man named Jim, his friend Myron, and a bag-boy named Norm follow him in their to see what's going on. They decide to send Norm outside into the mist to see what plugged up the exhaust of the generator. Well, they open the door and suddenly they see a huge tentacle grab norm and start writhing him about. Norm grabs on to the door and tries to get help from the other guys. David finally goes over to Norm's aid, but everybody else just stares at the enormous tentacle with disbelief. Eventually, the tentacle proves to be too strong for David to hold and Norm gets pulled into the mist, with his blood-curdling screams ringing in their ears. David takes his anger out on Jim and Myron for letting Norm go out into the mist. But he calms down and tries to think what the next step is, in this mind-boggling situation.

Well Katherine did have something to fear. Damien ended up pushing her off the top floor, making it look like she tried to kill herself. But at the hospital she still wasn't safe either, Mrs. Baylock came and pushed her out the window; she died on impact. Meanwhile Thorn, who befriended a photographer named Jennings, was in Rome trying to find a man by the name of Bugenhagen. Bugenhagen is from a long line of "Anti-Christ" killers, and Thorn is trying to find some help for his little "Anti-Christ" of his own. Well, they finally find Bugenhagen residing underneath Israel. He tells Thorn that the only way to kill Damien is to use these special knives, and he has to do it inside a church. Thorn still doesn't believe that a child is capable of all this, and he refuses to kill an innocent five year old kid. So, they leave Bugenhagen, and when they get on solid ground Thorn chucks the knives away, but Jennings strongly believed that Damien should be killed so he went to go fetch them. But while doing so a crane was lifting up a large shard of glass and it slipped from it's grasp, slicing through Jennings's neck; beheading him. After, Thorn witnesses that he starts to believe that somethings up. He heads back home, putting together the pieces; his wife dying Jennings dying, and finally realizes what he has to do. When he gets back to the mansion, he struggles taking Damien away from Mrs. Baylock, (who is a disciple of Satan, and who was put on this Earth to protect Damien) but finally runs over her with his car. They pull to the church, and Damien notices whats happening, he pulls and scratches, and does everything to prevent Thorn from committing this deed. Thorn manages to get the knives out, but someone had called the cops and the police arrived threatening to shoot him if he followed through with stabbing this "helpless" child. Thorn stabs Damien but the policeman fires and shoots Thorn. At the funeral of his parents, Damien sits with his new guardians, an snickers a painfully evil laugh.

Entry #2

Father Tassone paid Thorn a visit in his office. He told Thorn to, "accept Christ as your Saviour" and to "Drink the blood of Christ and eat his flesh, for only if He is within you can you defeat the child of the Devil." . Father Tassone finally exclaims that, "[Damien] was born of a jackal! I saw it myself!" Thorn, believing that Father Tassone was truly insane, ordered him to be escorted off the premises. Meanwhile, Katherine is finally spending more time with Damien but he is still very unemotional while he's with her, and then gets so happy when the new nanny comes. Katherine tried evrything to make him happier with her, and he seemed to like an animal cut-out book that she gave him, the best. So Katherine decided to take him to the zoo, but every animal they saw always stopped what it was doing and just stared Damien down. The monkey's reacted in amost horrific way, they kept howling and screming while trying to get out of the cage, they were trying to get away from Damien. However, in doing so they clawed and bit eachother, spraying blood everywhere, one monkey even ran into the concret head on and it's skull cracked open. To make it even worse, while this was happening Damien was laughing hysterically. Katherine was very distraught about the whole thing, and wants to seek a psychiatrist, because she's learning to fear her only "son".

Entry #1

Jeremy Thorn is the Economic Advisor to the White House, and he's on his way to the Ospedale Generale (hospital) in Rome, where his wife, Katherine, is hopefully giving birth to their first child. But when he gets their Father Spilletto breaks the news that the child died. This is after her three previous miscarriages, as well. So Thorn is devastated but Katherine doesn't know yet. Father Spiletto however gets word of another baby in the maternal ward who's mother had died giving birth to him, and has no other family. Father Spiletto tells Thorn that he should take him, he has no family, and that's what Thorn needs. He agrees to it and brings the baby to Katherine, telling her that it's theirs. Coincidentally, the baby did look a great deal like Thorn, making it very believable that it was indeed their child. The child, Damien, is now five, and at his birthday party his nanny kills herself for him. Katherine is devastated, thinking that it was her fault for giving her an angry look when the nanny was getting all the attention of the photographers while bringing the cake in. A new nanny comes, who Damien clings to, more than Katherine even. The other butlers don't liker her either, and she won't leave Damien's side. Lastly, all of this is happening before Damien can even speak yet.

Henry's dad was admitted to a hospital for therapy, to help him cope with his eldest son's death. Henry missed him a lot but still had to do hi job. Mr. Hairston, on the other hand, had other plans. He takes advantage of Henry's sorrow and he wanted a monument for his brother (Eddie's grave is the only grave in the cemetery that does not have a monument). Mr. Hairston told Henry he was fired at the end of the week as well, just to add to his despair. But there was a catch, Mr. Hairston would allow him to keep his job, get Eddie a monument, and have his mother promoted at he job as well, (Mr. Hairston knew a lot of people around town) if Henry would do something for him. Henry would have to demolish Mr. Levines wooden replica of his hometown, and if he didn't follow through with it, Mr. Hairston would basically make Henry's life miserable. What made this even worse was that Mr. Levine's village had won first place in the City's Best Art contest. There was going to be a huge ceremony at City Hall, with the Mayor there as well. So Henry went to the arts and crafts center and was greeted by George Graham. But Henry hid in the back until the place closed. He found a suitable hammer for the job and swung it above Mr. Levine's village. He stood there for a while and realized how much he didn't want to do this, Mr. Levine was one of his best friends and he never wanted to do this in the first place. Suddenly, a rat jumped on the village instead and started wrecking it, but Henry was deathly afraid of rats and jumped back. The hammer flew out of his hands and crashed down on Mr. Levine's hard work and the bench underneath it; the whole thing collapsed. After he explained to Mr. Hairston what happened, and how the village was completely ruined, Henry would not accept the rewards Mr. Hariston promised he would give him. He went back to the arts and crafts place and is greeted by George Graham, he tells Henry that some wise guys broke in and wrecked Mr. Levine's village, and that the ceremony will be postponed until Christmas time. He sees Mr. Levine working painstakingly like nothing happened, Henry tells them that he's moving and Mr. Levine gives him a tiny wooden boy which he recognizes as himself, he is immensely thankful for having them as friends even if it was for such a short time. After Henry's dad gets discharged from the hospital, they moved back to Frenchtown and the first day he gets out a baseball and bat and runst to the cemetery. He sticks them upon Eddie's grave and "he did not know how long they would remain before being snatched away, but for this one moment, this one evening, Eddie's had his monument.

So, with his mom usually working double shifts since his father still can't accept Eddies's death, all Henry has to lisen to now is just mean, old Mr. Hairston. But soon Henry meets another elderly old man who lives in the "crazy house" across the the street from their appartmen complex. Mr. Levine is not crazy though, he's actually a Holocaust survivor who's family was killed. Henry follows to him to this arts and crafts center, where Mr. Levine goes everyday and is watched over by George Graham a giant of a man. Mr. Levine is a skilled wood carver and he spends many hours re-creating the village where he grew up, which was turned into a concentration camp. Henry is amazed at how real it looks, and how patient Mr. Levine is to create such tiny replicas. Inaddtion, Mr. Levine doesn't speak any English but, Henry has a connection with him far greater than anyoneelse in Wickburg.
